A Druid's Web Log - November 2008 - Obama, Prop 8 and Celtic Myth
I hope everyone appreciates how quiet and circumspect I have been about the election of Obama. All I can say is I wept when he was announced as the winner. The long national nightmare is finally over...
Meanwhile Prop 8 was passed in California, something for which all Americans should be ashamed, especially the Mormon and Catholic churches who used their tax-exempt tithes to engage in a massive campaign of bigotry.
I am troubled by the injustice of the vote in CA. If southerners of the 1950's and 1960's had been allowed to vote on de-segregating the schools, lunch counters and water fountains we would probably still have apartheid in the south. In a democracy the majority should not be allowed to dictate the rights of the minority. The rights of the minority should be protected. This sad result is another reason why church and state need to have a strong wall between them.

I got some very nice press this month, a lovely review of my new tree book and a reading on the Celtic Myth podshow...the English voices on the podcast are so gorgeous, they take my somewhat dry and factual book into the realm of the great mythic stories...
In case anyone is in the MA area, here is a workshop I am doing next month. Hope to see some of you there! Two Seasons, Three Worlds, Four Treasures, Five Directions: The Pillars of Druidism. An exploration of the basic cosmology of the ancient Celts and the most important symbols of Celtic and Druidic sacred mythology. Why are certain objects sacred to Pagan tradition such as the cauldron, sword, spear and stone? Learn the Druidic origins of these ritual items and the basic structure of Celtic ceremony. Saturday December 13th, 2-3:30 PM Inspirit Common 123 Russell Street Hadley, MA 01035 p/f 413.585.1169 www.InspiritCommon.com
May everyone have a bountiful harvest tide, and don't forget to thank the turkeys!
